Metaphor and Extended Metaphor

Metaphor: A metaphor is comparing two unlikely things without using the words like or as. An EXTENDED METAPHOR is comparing more than one thing to each other as in comparing groups of things.

Example:

"And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

Significance: We use these terms to give meaning and life to the poem without usuing the words like or as.
